Technical profile
Annunziata is a famous cru that rises among the round and sinuous hills of La Morra where there is a compact, clayey loam soil rich in minerals (iron, manganese), with a balanced component of sand, silt and clay, in which the clayey presence increases in depth. This provides excellent water storage capacity. From our vineyard of just under one hectare, the Barolo Annunziata Riserva arrives in 2019 and is Borgogno’s latest adventure that tells a new side. A wine that is born from a selection in the vineyard and that, after a long ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels, matures for many years in the bottle, in the historic cellars that wind beneath the historic centre of Barolo. Annunziata represents the most authentic balance and finesse of Barolo with its fragrance of fresh fruit.
How to serve it
Borgogno is one of the most historic Barolo wines, with a classic style. The most historic vintages, which may show very slight sediment, can be decanted immediately before serving if desired. Slowly. The praise of Slowness, without haste.
Perfect pairing
Barolo par excellence goes well with important dishes, such as traditional Piedmontese meat dishes. Spanning the world’s traditions, we find goulash in Eastern Europe. Going to Japan instead, we think of gyoza (fried dumplings filled with spring onion, marinated pork and spices). Moving to the United States of America, beef (angus, wagyu, ox nostral, longhorn) in the brisket cut. But if you have the pleasure, even a simple ‘special’ toast is perfect!
